In early spring we welcome the sound of Blue Grouse, known locally as “hooters”. Males announce their presence to females, such as the one shown here, through a loud booming 'call' that may be mistaken for an owl hooting during daylight hours. During the mating season, male grouse are fearless, attacking pedestrians, even bicyclists!
