A mountain goat in early spring is one of Glacier Bay's most majestic animals. It still has most of its winter fur, and has successfully managed to make it through another winter. This one stood above me about 100 feet atop a cliff, as I craned my camera up from my kayak. I found that, much like the face of a glacier, it is unwise to approach too closely as a cascade of rocks tumbled off the cliff in the wake of the goat's path. Many visitors spy goats on Gloomy Knob near the middle of the bay. Photographer: Sean Neilson
